Bike looked vaguely like this.

Just witnessed a motorcycle crash on the road under the City Music Center. A gentleman wiped out on a sportier looking bike, I believe he was trying to do a wheelie or something else that involved hard acceleration. He lost control, laid the bike over on a high curb, then he and the bike both slammed into one of the building’s support columns. Rider was conscious and responsive, but his leg didn’t look great. He was not wearing any safety gear, and as such got damn lucky. Stay safe out there.

I cannot say for sure that he was doing anything illegal, I just heard the motorcycle accelerate hard, then turned and saw him crash.

I’ve seen enough assholery from enough sportbike stunters where I don’t really care what happens to them anymore. I never cease to be amazed at how many guys out there in their 20s act like they’re still 13. as far as I’m concerned, when these dipshits start causing trouble the police should just throw down spike strips and let the problem take care of itself.

I hope that the road rash makes him remember not to be an idiot. I know that Oppo, in general, is a pro-motorcyclist kinda place, but on the DC beltway, I see waaaaaay too many idiot motorcyclists. Not to say there aren’t ass hat drivers as well, but they all wonder why their buddies die when a Camry broadsides them while they’re going 115mph. It’s like common fucking sense.

This is why when I get a motorcycle I plan on driving it as cautiously possibly, including wearing the right gear. Motor bikes are dangerous enough by nature you don’t need to add being a douche about it.

There are a few extra signs of spring that come with living in a University Town. I love having the students around. It makes the city a much better place; but, it does change things a bit. This week, one sure sign was a number of very anxious people carrying awkward packages on their morning commute: it’s final senior project time for art and architecture majors. Models, sculptures, and painting aren’t going to present themselves. Another sign? Tons of obviously inexperienced riders on new-to-them bikes, all too often in sandals, shorts, t-shirts, and maybe a backwards ball cap on their unused heads. I sure don’t wish them ill, but they are most definitely not doing anyone any favors, least of all themselves.

Annnnnd this is exactly why I can’t own a street bike. I’ve gotten older, but I’m pretty sure I haven’t grown up. I don’t intend to “grow up” instantly from doing something stupid on the road. Now dirtbikes and offroad only? Well that is another story, I'm off to the track now.
